Beijing is the New Black

Luxury fashion now has an official home in Beijing in the form of the Sanlitun Village shopping center.

Already housing flagship stores from Balenciaga, Balmain, Lanvin, Versace and the I.T Beijing Market, 2011 has seen a impressive influx of designer names, not mention Alexander Wang and Miu Miu boutiques arriving soon.  Let’s take a look at the Village’s latest residents. -Christina Mannatt

Alexander McQueen

The Alexander McQueen store bears the same stark, sleek design as its international counterparts, however, Sarah Burton’s masterful designs for men and women are the star of the show at this bi-level flagship.

Maison Martin Margiela

This Maison Martin Margiela flagship is the brand’s largest to date.  While most MMM boutiques tend to be tucked away down hidden alleys and passageways, passersby are immediately drawn to the brightly lit window displays, one of which contains a twisting slide that delivers riders into a pile of pillows.

Marni

Marni designer Consuelo Castiglioni partnered with longtime collaborator Sybarite to design the new 6,000 sqft store.  The interiors exhibit the brand’s signature store layout, marked with polished steel trees that display Castiglioni’s creations.

Moncler

French outerwear brand Moncler tapped architecture and design firm Gilles & Boissier to craft its Sanlitun outpost.  Spread across 5,500 sqft, collections for women and men can be found at this boutique, as well as the Moncler Gamme Rouge (designed by Giambattista Valli) Moncler Gamme Bleu (designed by Thom Browne) lines.
