The Stylesight team travelled to Japan this month, stoping at Greenroom’s openair festival in Yokohama in search of new trends and sweet street style.
Greenroom is renowned for its celebration of the environment, beach lifestyle, surfing, movies, music and art from around the world. The two-day indoor/outdoor event draws Tokyo’s “beach-bound” set, with a line-up of local and international indie bands including Brooklyn’s finest, The Drums, as well surf photographers and international artists. The strong beach attitude was reflected enormously in the style of attendees, with guys and girls showcasing active- and outdoor-inspired looks across the weekend. Laundered denim shirts and destroyed jackets were combined with ethnic print dresses or aloha shorts layered over performance leggings for an urban take on the great outdoors.
Ethnic and hippie themes were channeled through bohemian and surf styling, combining high-color embroideries with laundered and distressed denims and a wave of tie-dye, psychedelic patterns, floral accessories and saturated colors. Key denim items worth calling out included pilot style zip-through jumpsuits, kangaroo pocket denim tees and “Acne style” distressed denim jackets, cementing the trend for destroyed surfaces.
