Active Edge – Christopher Raeburn – S/S 12

London Fashion Week kicked off with a presentation from one of the Active Team’s favorite designers, Christopher Raeburn. A graduate of London’s prestigious Royal College of Art in 2006, Raeburn has adopted a unique position within the fashion industry by incorporating vintage deadstock military fabrics including wool, leather, cotton and parachute fabrics into his collection. These materials have in fact become sort of a trademark for Raeburn, offering the Active community a high-end interpretation of some key items like bomber jackets, field coats and as of recent, basic knits.

The designer staged a temporary exhibition at the Museum of London, complete with blow-up squirrels and an interactive oversized LED screen looping close-up images of garments and inspirational visuals. The models were strategically arranged on large blocks of colored materials, creating a 3-dimensional atmosphere that was literally like walking into a color theory equation. The graphic use of primary color was anchored by classic Raeburn hues including drab green and khaki, creating an unexpected juxtaposition that felt refreshing to editors and attendees.
