BEST OF FEST New York: With a finger perpetually on the pulse of all things youth, leave it to Marc Jacobs to jump into the mosh pit with a music festival-ready collection. Marc by Marc’s take was unique in his deft upscaling of the archetypal concert attendee’s wardrobe, without any dilution of her rebellious spirit. Of course Jacobs is no stranger to the roots of this aesthetic, having made history at Perry Ellis in 1992 with a collection that captivatingly curated the look of the then-fledgling Grunge sub-culture. This time around, Jacobs trotted out his signature high-low mix of the undeniably desirable and the thrift store find (dot-embossed leather shorts sets meet gnarly art student sweaters) with witty nuance. From here, it certainly Smells Like Teen Spirit. —Kibwe Chase-Marshall
