The food truck scene in S.F. has a giant, new, wood-fired contender on the prowl. Jon Darsky was working at the Mission’s acclaimed flour + water back in 2010, learning the fine art of making Neopolitan-style pizza, when he decided to open a restaurant. Thwarted, he came up with an idea so crazy it just had to work: convert a shipping container to a food truck, find a way to put an oven in there, and begin churning out artisan pizza at reasonable prices. With a name that translates to of the people in Italian, Del Popolo’s ever-changing menu consists of three kinds of personal pies, running from $11-14 each. With a perfectly charred and crispy crust, this is pizza worth hunting for, so check Del Polopo’s Twitter feed to pick up your own slice of heaven.
