Before everyone and their mother had an iPhone and an Instagram account, there were folks like Brad Elterman. As a teenager in ‘70s Southern California, Elterman began snapping candid photos of the rock stars who called L.A. home, or passed through it while touring or recording. The precocious photog made friends with many of them, gaining access to their private worlds and getting some iconic shots in the process.
From now until September 10th, Venice Beach’s Kana Manglapus Projects presents Factory 77, a collection of fascinating photos taken by Elterman around that time period featuring stars such as Joan Jett, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Robert Plant, Gene Simmons, Madonna, Duran Duran, Peter Frampton, Debbie Harry, David Bowie, The Ramones and many more. If you happen to be in Los Angeles this summer, why not pop in and marvel at these un-posed and oh-so-inspiring images, keeping in mind that Elterman ditched school for a day in order to bag Bowie! xx Ashley Churchill
