Marit Beemster is one cool lady. After leaving her post as a designer for Tommy Hilfiger last fall, she turned her gorgeous Amsterdam apartment into a unique, part-time restaurant, Marits Huiskamerrestaurant. This self-taught chef was sick and tired of the predictable vegetarian fare found in the city’s dining establishments, and ready for a change of pace. Now Beemster is dishing up meat-free Mediterranean cuisine with Dutch influences on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights; other days are available for private events. All of the carefully sourced ingredients are organic, and locally-grown whenever possible, making for healthy, homemade meals. The three-course menu changes monthly and will run you a reasonable 28 euros ($37).

We ate at Marit’s place a couple of weeks ago. Such a cosy intimate atmosphere, like being at home, but amazing food as well. A+++ – can’t wait to find an excuse to go back!
