Ashley is from L.A., attends Saint Martins in London, and is visiting New York. As if that wasn’t worldly enough, her look also had me thinking back to my recent Tokyo trip – the dark hair and kabuki-meets-geisha makeup probably led me in that direction. I’m not sure if she intended any sort of geisha-inspired look. I stopped her because I liked her fishnets and laser cut oxfords – I only noticed the Japanese inflected bits of her style later. I did notice at the time that she had enamel chopsticks twisted in the back of her hair. I purposefully don’t ask many questions when I stop someone to shoot a street style photo. It’s always much more interesting for me (and I hope for you guys as well) to speculate about who they are and what their intentions are and why they made the style choices they did. To explain everything about their look and what their inspiration was and where they bought everything destroys the mystery.
