A character type in older movies that I have always loved is the gorgeous and efficient but under-appreciated secretary. The role will usually be played by someone like Brigitte Bardot while wearing some sort of up-do and hiding behind glasses. Her boss will usually be a bit bumbling and distracted and completely oblivious to her charms. She’ll spend the bulk of the movie efficiently running his affairs while he chases after another female character that the audience can clearly see is not the right match for him. Near the end of the movie, the up-do comes down and the glasses come off and the boss finally sees the gem that the audience has seen all along. I ran into Alice on Leroy St. today. – x eddie
