Detail of the Day — Louis Vuitton

Marc Jacobs’ boudoir-inspired collection for Louis Vuitton F/W 13 was a sensuous combination of menswear patterns and silhouettes offset by feminine details. Here, the masculine lines of a woolen plaid coat were softened by densely packed sequins at the hem — creating an alluring ombré effect. — Marissa Stuart

Louis Vuitton

BOUDIOR SECRETS Paris: Following last season’s boldly geometric mod presentation, Marc Jacobs decided to take a far quieter approach at Louis Vuitton with looks reminiscent of the boudoir-influenced pieces he showed for his own collection in New York. Low-key glamour and a secretive nature dominated in Paris, the models clad in silky camisole dresses, pajama sets and velvet dressing gowns, some hidden beneath upscale minks or gorgeous plaid overcoats trimmed in dégradé sequins. The ensembles shown without cover-ups were ...

Marc Jacobs

ELEMENTAL GLAMOUR New York: Marc Jacobs orchestrated one of his most glamorous shows ever, lit with a huge sun that showered intense light on the models and created an ethereal ambiance. Jacobs was inspired by artist Olafur Eliasson’s The Weather Project at the Tate. At first the light reflected only the sparkle and shiny materials, the rest was black, gray and sepia; you couldn’t clearly identify the clothes–there was only a feeling of otherworldly grace—like a force of nature. Then the ...

Detail of the Day — Marc by Marc

Master storyteller, Marc Jacobs wove a narrative inspired by the iconic women of the 40s for his Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. A bright pair of lipstick red trousers looked as if they were straight out of a modern day Katherine Hepburn closet.  A flattering high-waist silhouette with extended pant tabs created a playful, built-in self-belt. Contrasting black leather piping highlights the lines of this inventive waistband and adds a dose of contemporary edge.— Marissa Stuart

Marc by Marc Jacobs

THESE GUYS New York: Marc Jacobs reinvented familiar territory for himself, digging into his nerd-chic fantasies to deliver schlumpy-cool suits in teacher-style plaid or vintage-style boat stripes, all updated with straight, baggy trousers that evoked 90s kids trying on their dad’s clothes. He also showed utility pants, complete with hammer loops, another nod to 90s boy style, and a variety of tartans and plaids, most notably a dark tartan on a lovely overcoat. Turtlenecks showed up too, in luxurious ...

Marc by Marc Jacobs

WE CAN DO IT New York: After last season’s homage to 80s club kids, for F/W 13 Marc Jacobs rewound the clock, mining the 40s for his younger Marc by Marc line. There was touch of Amelia Earhart in the full-hipped pegged pants, neat shirts and military touches. The androgynous glamour of Katharine Hepburn was evident in the high-waist slacks, pussy-bow blouses and the models' frizzy finger waves and morale-boosting red lips. Jacobs usually piles his youthful charge with ...

Runway Flash – Burgundy Boys

Burgundy hits hard at New York Men’s shows, as designers seek to add warmth and color to cold weather ensembles. Burgundy’s rich hue complements other earth tones like olive and mustard, and of course sits nicely with neutrals, especially khaki. – Andrew Luecke
