SOFT VOLUME
New York: Without ever changing much, Maria Cornejo manages to remain relevant season after season. The subtle elegance and braininess of her designs never go out of style. This season, Cornejo worked with the soft volume that has become her signature. Draped and gathered items formed asymmetrical shapes that fell away from the body. The designer has experimented with photo prints of late, but this season she set those aside, in favor of high-contrast black and white-based prints inspired by graffiti. There were also abstract geometrics that featured striking Yves Klein blue. Cornejo worked with neoprene for the first time, but formed it into familiar shapes, so that it harmonized with the rest of the collection. –Joanna Manganaro
