ANNIVERSARY OF AN EXPERIMENT
New York: Yohji Yamamoto commemorated the 10th anniversary of his Y-3 collection for Adidas with an elegant twist on the label’s usual active apparel and accessories, pairing items like oversized athletic shorts with sateen double-breasted jackets. Running through a full spectrum of competitive sports, from tennis skirts and fitted fencing tops to boxing sneakers and equestrian caps, the designer worked with sheer chiffon textures and an abstracted version of the Adidas stripe. Slouchy and urban, but also feminine and draped, S/S 13 also went further with color this season by adding cobalt, ice blue and tangerine to a typically monochrome palette. Ending on voluminous dresses and chic fedoras, Y-3 will surely enjoy another decade of this experimentally charged collaboration.—Nina Stotler
