Bonnie Cashin (mother of American sportswear) believed that designing clothes was like creating a collage on the body. For Spring 2013, that approach is expressed in a more literal way, with all sorts of pieced and patchworked constructions informing dresses, separates and sets. Some versions suggest constructivist artworks, while others borrow from folkloric traditions like quiltmaking. The technique works with mixes of solids, florals, lace — even snakeskin. –Sharon Graubard
