FULL MOON FEVER
Paris: Both capes and velvet have been getting a lot of play this season, with nearly every designer producing some iteration for their collections. The inclusion seemed like a natural fit for Viktor & Rolf’s consistently romantic aesthetic, but as always, any trend on their runway is treated to an avant-garde twist. Capes became delicate silk blouses with fluttering tails, and velvet showed up in the form of pajama pants or a relaxed evening jumpsuit. From there the trends were more specific to Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren’s classic work—quirky fur-trimmed suiting, oversized cuffs, layered ruffles and shockingly sheer eveningwear, all pulled together by a supernatural full-moon theme. Although some of the werewolf references were a bit too literal, abstract fur prints, rather than the actual deconstructed skins, were a dimensional innovation. —Nina Stotler
