Milan: Versus designer Christopher Kane channeled 1960s psychedelic culture this season, and mixed in a bit of punk and grunge. Lace-up leather pants, tie-dyed mini-dresses and shaggy Mongolian fur coats called to mind free-spirited rock groupies, while girlish little frocks and thigh-high boots covered in ornate wallpaper motifs evoked the cool chicks of Carnaby Street — now, embodied in the edgy fashions found on the sidewalks of Camden. A varied palette evolved from rich tones of wine and royal blue to punky shades of fuchsia and acid yellow. Delicate lace panels, diaphanous chiffon and sexy, laced-up cutouts provided a feminine foil to tougher elements — slashed tees, slouchy denim, leather panels, exposed zippers. Emerging as a key item for F/W 12, the basic turtleneck was present here as well, a finely ribbed knit version worn layered beneath blazers, cardigans and even shift dresses. — Anna Jane Davis
