A GROUPIE IN GREECE
Milan: When Donatella Versace does rock and roll, you can be sure it will be short, tight and to the point. Unapologetically seductive and bold, the designer imagined a music groupie on a bohemian tour of Greece outfitted in this season’s revived must-have, the gladiator sandal boot, as well as the tiniest of miniskirts and tunic dresses. Cut from wrinkled silk edged with uneven lace panels or crumpled chiffon tie-dyes, many of these pieces had the lived-in signs of a raucous night out, while several looks were practically torn asunder by asymmetric lacing. Versace’s Athenian references came courtesy the gladiator footwear, studded leather harnesses, goddess gowns and a strangely executed nod to her brand’s iconography in the form of a floating Medusa head graphic. With a certain rough glamour, S/S 13 was an approachable wash-and-wear version of classic Versace luxury.—Nina Stotler
