MONOCHROME TRAVELER
Milan: Structured suiting and monochrome color combinations were the most notable elements of Trussardi’s Fall season, a meditation on a well-equipped and sophisticated traveler. Outfitted with wide brimmed hats, backpacks and weekend bags, the label’s muse layered practical mid-calf skirts, leather outerwear and cable knits in pleasing autumnal shades of pumpkin and caramel, incorporating both washed silk and chunky corduroy into her repertoire. Cooler tones of sage and dove grey prevailed for three-piece pantsuits while black ensembles took a more edgy, serious tone, embellished with zippers and buckles. Unfortunately this shift in direction also produced awkward boxy suits and asymmetric dresses in shiny leather, an unnecessary break from the preceding warm and expertly styled looks.—Nina Stotler
