THE SHARPER STUFF
London: Canadian designer Thomas Tait has only shown in London for a few seasons after graduating from Central St. Martins, but he is already known as the latest name in polished minimalism. After Fall’s slightly run-of-the-mill sport references, Tait returned to form for S/S 13 with sharp shantung silk cocoon coats, precisely pleated walking shorts and boxy quilted vests in stark black and white punctuated by electric blues and chartreuse. These clean pieces established a straightforward contrast to the graffitied skate park setting, while intarsia turtlenecks and relaxed sweatshirts softened the otherwise oversized and angular silhouettes. Tait’s motorcycle jackets also swelled, and a black and white version featured a voluminous arched back that was wonderfully directional for this confident emerging talent.—Nina Stotler
