New York: In contrast to Ter et Bantine’s colorful Spring collection, Pre-Fall was a dark and moody change of direction full of mossy textures and deep shades of olive and sable. Glossy patent leather and slick pony hair contrasted with brushed alpaca and felted cashmere, stitched together into paneled skirts and simple coats. Proving rich materials don’t have to be ostentatious, designer Manuela Arcari expertly cut her high-end furs and leathers into boxy jackets as well as modern peplum tops, allowing the silhouettes to speak for themselves. Both architectural and intellectual, the collection achieved a cool femininity through details: folded faux cummerbunds, detachable peter pan collars, gathered waists and blouson hems. Gorgeously understated, Ter et Bantine’s latest spoke softly but carried a luxurious weight.—Nina Stotler
