BUSINESS NEUTRAL
Milan: Designer Manuela Arcari was all business this season, though in an intellectual manner appropriate for Ter et Bantine’s luxurious restraint. Following a long tradition of fashion borrowing from the boardroom, the collection made pinstripes and flannel look new for women, eschewing the usual sexed up or overly mannish route in favor of something referentially neutral. Blazers were slim or sleeveless, cinched just under the bust with leather utility belts, box pleat skirts hit well below the knee and full trousers pooled at the ankles. Coats with round shoulders and lustrous mink pieces had a more pliant undercurrent, but high necks and body-skimming silhouettes kept the mood sober. Flashes of cobalt crept in among the dark neutrals, while flat loafers and heavy flat-form booties spoke to Ter et Bantine’s unassuming and powerful Fall confidence.—Nina Stotler
