TWISTED SISTER
London: Up-and-coming Sister by Sibling embodies all the one hopes for from a young London label – a cheeky sense of humor, a willingness to buck tradition, and unfettered creativity. For fall, designers Sid Bryan, Joe Bates and Cozette McCreery presented an exuberant collection based on knits, their medium of choice. Sweet embellished twinsets, crocheted skater skirts, and Fair Isle-inspired separates made up the more approachable parts of the offering, but midway through the show, the designers launched into a series of striking oversized knits made from ultra-chunky yarns. A cocoon-shaped dress with a fur funnel neck was a particular standout. Later, model-of-the-moment Cara Delevingne stalked the runway in a chunky sweater in a pattern that was a play on crocheted granny squares. Though the more directional pieces may not be an easy sell, they communicated the label’s identity loud and clear, and the designers included enough wearable items to balance them out. –Joanna Manganaro
