A PLAYFUL DIRECTION
Milan: Emerging designer Sergio Zambon embodies a quirky playfulness not often found in seriously luxurious Milan. Simultaneously girly and witty, Zambon’s Fall collection focused on knee and calf-length dresses and skirts, as well as simple coats and boxy tops. Bright ruffles, fuzzy patch pockets and kitschy tassels were the details which pushed these items forward, though the designer was actually at his best with more restrained pieces, like striped brocade matched sets, a nude gown with a keyhole neckline, or a silver notched hem blouse. Accessories lent a circus atmosphere to the presentation via miniature hats perched at a jaunty angle, floppy fur caps and mismatched black and white pumps, but these styling choices made some of the more experimental ensembles read a bit too kooky.—Nina Stotler
