London: Ethereal and yet unrelentingly modern, Sass & Bide’s S/S 13 collection made significant use of a sharp cotton eyelet, a material both sweet and revealing applied to shorts suits and tapered trousers. Wafting chiffon tails helped temper the aggressive lines of deep necklines on sharp blazers and floral chokers were a soft contrast to angular halter dresses. But the design duo’s heavier textures were the most impressive update this season and a celebrity packed front row responded enthusiastically to feathered paillettes, beaded diamond patterns and sequined silver shoulder pads, as well as an unusually sophisticated series of evening looks in navy. —Nina Stotler
