THE SPORT OF COLORBLOCKING
London: With Vogue’s Anna Wintour perched on the front row, Roksanda Illinic has most definitely arrived and for S/S 13 her work was bolder and more graphic than ever. Continuing the sporty influences she has explored for the past few seasons, the designer took a 70s approach to colors, employing a mix of cobalt, apricot and tangerine for swirling, colorbocked dresses and jumpsuits. When the ensembles weren’t energized with slices of bright patchwork, they featured contrast sleeves or sweet ruffled collars, playing an innocent schoolgirl look against sharper op-art patterns. Illinic’s textured cotton tweeds and macramé fit right in with her retro references, but a laminated organza closing the presentation was plastic-y and unflattering for buff-colored tiered skirts and poet sleeve dresses.—Nina Stotler
