New York: David Neville and Marcus Wainwright combined a variety of Indian and British influences for their F/W 12 Rag & Bone collection. A patchwork of pattern and material lent intense dimension to the piled on layers the designers are known for, while slim tailored pieces offered a sharp alternative. Cutaway jackets in blanket stripe wool felt more sophisticated than rustic, while riding pants with button-up cuff details gained an urban vibe with contrast panels. Leather piecing played an important role, appearing on sleeves, pockets, and most uniquely as zigzag stripes knit into a crochet dress. The freshness came from surprisingly light items like chiffon pants and slinky skirts, which gained warmth from multiple layers of leggings, vests and blazers — all in mixed patterns, of course. —Anna Jane Davis
