KNIT SCIENCE
London: Pringle of Scotland’s precision knitwear for F/W 13 constituted a clean slate following the departure of designer Alistair Carr last year, leaving behind his embellishment and femininity in favor of an exacting 60s futurism. Tubular ribbing, skinny foundation turtlenecks, monochrome bib front dresses and pared-down skirt suits had a scientific appeal, while stripped military details like laser cut epaulettes and tonal patch pockets emphasized a no nonsense uniformity. Medical creams, neutral pumice and retro cornflower blue softened the collection’s strict silhouette, while airy ostrich feathers (an emerging material detail on many runways this season) were a clever, deconstructed touch spilling from collars and waistbands.—Nina Stotler
