(FULL)SKIRTING THE ISSUE
Milan: It seems there may be a trend brewing in Milan. Just hours after Prada’s masterful collection hit the runways, Fiona Cibani sent out similar 50s-inspired grey flannel skirt suits and A-line coats for Ports 1961. Though Cibani’s offering later diverged from Prada’s, the initial similarity was remarkable. In addition to the full skirts and killer coats, Cibani sent out boxy woven tops and pencil skirts, often embellished with jewels, as well as a great pair of tailored trousers and multiple takes on the turtleneck sweater. A large-scale black-and-white floral print gave the offering a moody, romantic quality, while astrakhan separates were luxurious and texturally interesting. A touch of edginess was provided by a black leather shirtdress and a matching coat. Approachable and of-the-moment, the collection left viewers with plenty of items to covet. –Joanna Manganaro
