VERY PERRY
New York: Steven Cox and Daniel Silver’s promise of an all-khaki collection for their Perry Ellis reboot had fashion fans wondering what that might be, but the Duckie duo delivered with a richly imagined offering that found subtle nuances in the label’s classic chino-tinted roots. The designers managed to muster a dreamy range of color from their khaki vision, expanding it into metallic gold, dusty pink, stone, spice brown, and a rich olive green. Deftly used polka dots, windowpane checks and a luxe horizontally-cabled cashmere sweater were sly nods to the original namesake designer’s signatures. With cropped trench coats and boxy jackets atop wide-legged shorts or dramatically curved, drop-crotch trousers, the offering cleverly blended the Perry Ellis heritage with Duckie Brown’s irreverent quirkiness, breathing new life into this battered but venerable brand. —Andrew Luecke
