GETTING TECHNICAL
New York: Patrik Ervell is still finding his footing with his recent foray into womenswear, attempting to translate his cool and sporty aesthetic to the feminine form. For S/S 13 his collection went in a more technical direction, trying out tissue-thin nylon, performance quilting and even Teva-style sandals. But unlike Ervell’s menswear, many of the proportions just didn’t sit correctly, including awkward deflated skirts and widely cut windbreaker pullovers. In the end, the women’s pieces that worked best were the most simple—quilted mini blouson jackets, lightweight elongated stadium coats and cropped shorts, each of which avoided difficult pleating and draping.—Nina Stotler
