FABRIC & MATERIALS

L to R: Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney
Innovative fabrics were the nucleus to create individual looks on intricate pieces during Paris Fashion Week. Patchwork became highly stylized compared to “granny’s quilts” from the past seasons. Rabbit fur in a black and taupe mix created a panel in the front of a salt and pepper tweed coatdresss at a standout show from Miu Miu. Leather was ruched and ruffled on a skirt and jacket suit bringing a new texture to a supple surface with fingerless gloves, in the same treatment, to match at Louis Vuitton. The resurgence of a more traditional surface treatment, velvet devore burnout, was revisited at Balenciaga (one of the most future forward house). French lace exuded femininity with its combination on silk to create the illusion of “barely there” on strapless dresses.
