THE ARTIST AS ATHLETE
New York: Alexa Adams and Flora Gill of Ohne Titel took their S/S 13 inspiration from the work of 60s painter and illustrator Karl Wirsum, but the results were pure modernity. Riffing on the wavy outlines of Wirsum’s figurative drawings, the designers created a mirrored art nouveau colorblocked pattern for knit dresses and silk t-shirts, while also pulling these lines into contrast piping and sporty stripes. As usual, athleticism was central for Ohne Titel, this time expressed via slim track pants, sandals and shorts in mesh leather sandals and fitted zip-front jackets. Highly graphic but softly curved, Adams and Gill found an even middle ground between their artistic vision and technical craft this season.—Nina Stotler
