Milan: This season, Alessandro Dell’Acqua combined rich inspiration — the idea of Queen Elizabeth in her garden — with younger, directional looks for his two-year-old No. 21 collection. Heritage tweeds in deep vegetal tones were freshened with a veil of organza and cut into modern high-low mini skirts and dresses. Simple tailored items — classic button-front shirts, sleeveless shells and pencil skirts — were updated in unexpectedly luxe fabrics, while embellishment like jeweled waistlines and holographic paillettes added additional opulence. Amid the defined silhouettes and substantial materials, soft femininity appeared in the form of sheer panels that peeked out from beneath sculpted wool coats, dimensional guipure lace that offered flashes of skin, and plunging necklines which revealed silk brassieres. — Anna Jane Davis
