MINIMAL NO MORE
New York: Narciso Rodriguez has always been a minimal designer, concentrating on pared-down silhouettes, technical fabrics and sharply urban ensembles. The simple lines remained for S/S 13, but the collection included a surprising amount of surface embellishments, from gilded linen bustiers to intricately beaded floral tanks and burnout velvet florals. Rodriguez’s key pieces still achieved his signature effortless aesthetic, this time employing spaghetti strap tank dresses and camisoles as a contrast to the relatively heavy textures, while aggressively sharp-shouldered jackets reigned in an otherwise relaxed silhouette.—Nina Stotler
