HOPE FLOATS
Milan: It has been a rough couple months for the Missoni family. The company’s CEO and designer Angela’s brother, Vittorio, has still not been found after the plane he was on disappeared in Venezuela. But the company has been moving forward, despite their certain pain and anxiety. Missoni went ahead with its menswear show last month and presented its fall women’s collection today. One may have expected a darker offering, considering the circumstances, but the looks had a sense of ease and even an ethereal quality. The famous knits were made from the finest silk yarns and seemed to float on the body, and tones of cream, cobalt, lime, and mandarin orange looked fresh and optimistic. Silky pajama pants, easy column dresses, and robes suggested references to loungewear, with Asian influences becoming apparent through the use of kimono sleeves and self-belts. After the show, the designer stated that the family “continues to hope” for Vittorio’s safety. Her strength and positivity were visible in this fine selection of garments. –Joanna Manganaro
