Meadham Kirchhoff

RAINBOW DWELLERS
London: Ed Meadham and Ben Kirchhoff went literally over the rainbow for F/W 12. Amid growing acceptance of their madcap style and support from famous fans like Tavi Gevinson, who declared the label her favorite last season, the designers let loose with the bright colors and fanciful embellishment they’ve always loved. Luckily, much of the fashion world has also turned toward vibrant palettes and layered prints, making Meadham Kirchhoff’s scalloped brocade skirts, graphic intarsia knit crewnecks, shaggy cartoon furs and sequin pantsuits suddenly viable options. Kooky styling aside, Fall provided a surprising number of real-world pieces, especially for a youthful customer like Miss Gevinson. Pleated buffalo check miniskirts, denim vests, plaid apron dresses and lace button-ups would be just as home in the halls of a high school as on the runway.—Nina Stotler
