STREET BOYS
New York: For his recent Marc by Marc Jacobs collection, the designer added a number of surprise influences — like Oriental florals and the break-dancing swagger of golden age hip hop — to his always-welcome nerd-chic ensembles. This season Marc’s man was really a boy, a street savvy one at home in New York or London, but with just enough polish to wear a fuchsia suit out to a fashion week party. The designer continued his popular collaboration with Kangol, this time delivering leopard print snap-brims and retro-style ball caps in fluffy “furgora” that added a nice visual texture to otherwise clean looks. The forward-looking designer also stocked this F/W 13 collection with less-expected items and prints, including a number of shorts, short-sleeved button front shirts, and aloha florals. Shadow plaids, turtlenecks, and a camel-colored suit added cold-weather balance, while a puffer coat and varsity jacket helped keep things street-ready. —Andrew Luecke
