NOUVEAU KNITTER
London: Brazillian designer Lucas Nascimento has a significant knitwear background and although he is a fan of hand crafted yarn pieces his F/W 13 collection used new software as well as unusual blended materials to test the limits of tailored knits. Highly tactile and refined, below-the-knee cocoon shift dresses, inverse pleat tops, full trousers and molded shells came in lightweight knit fur, laser cut leather and chenille, each piece nearly begging to be touched. Body skimming silhouettes and halter necks looked reserved, while the grown-up nature of pencil skirts and turtlenecks, some with a tonal graphic leaf motif, were accessorized with cool off-the-shoulder stoles. Rounding out the season with an experimental bouclé yarn infused with cellophane thread, Nascimento proved that his work, and the knitwear category as a whole, have plenty of potential to grow.—Nina Stotler
