CONFIDENT ECCENTRICITY
Milan: Alessandro Dell’Aqua cited the eccentric Little Edie of Grey Gardens as his starting point this season, an influence which could be seen in the mohair intarsia knits, photo print wallpaper florals and heirloom brocades. But Dell’Aqua’s girl was far more confident and flashy than Edith Bouvier Beale, her cropped metallic trousers fitted tight and her turtleneck sweaters cinched at the waist, a swaggering attitude incongruous with long hand knit scarves and dainty slipper heels. In addition to these day looks which centered on wearable, textured knits with a retro vibe, Les Copains offered just enough embellished luxury appropriate for a younger customer, adding jet crystal beading and shredded faux-feather trim to simple straight skirts and dressy coats.—Nina Stotler
