REVENGE OF THE FALLEN
Paris: Alber Elbaz’s version of femininity is usually of a friendly, approachable variety. This season, however, the designer embraced an aggressive, come-hither attitude, with strong shoulders, plenty of slashed slits, and embroidered, rhinestone snakes curling around the neck. Despite the reptiles, the Lanvin woman is no fallen, reticent Eve, but a confident, modern sophisticate swathed in the elegant ease of stretch silk sheaths, cutout satin track pants and fluid tunics. Less comfortable and even more seductive were the evening looks and accessories, such as heavily embellished boxy dresses, and extremely sheer belted chiffon gowns that were toughened up with piles oversized crucifixes and eagle-emblazoned chokers.—Nina Stotler
