Kenzo Pre-Fall 2013

PAST THE PRINTS
New York: Carol Lim and Humberto Leon allowed prints to take center stage for their previous collection, but this time around, they opted for a cleaner look. The solid black, white, and blush tones that were used for the first series of looks allowed the viewer to focus on the items’ distinct cuts. The tent silhouette was used for shirts, and coats featured on-trend rounded shoulders. Later, the duo introduced ruffles, a play on the ruffle motifs founder Kenzo Takada had presented in the past. Though there was a significant cutback on prints, they were not completely absent. Leon and Lim offered dreamy cloud motifs, feather patterns, and muted florals. A tiger print connected to the motifs of last season. The decision to decrease their reliance on print and pattern demonstrated a new sense of confidence and showcased the duo’s design prowess. It was a good move. –Joanna Manganaro
