BUSINESS FLOUNCE
London: Amid the charged anticipation for his recently released collaboration with Topshop, J.W. Anderson presented his mainline collection for S/S 13, debuting a feminine shift in thinking for the quirky young designer. After seasons of boxy silhouettes and heavy quilting, Anderson’s dresses were soft and wrapped, his menswear check walking shorts embellished with ruffles and his pinstripe trousers draped and pleated. Dotted, retro shell tops sat with business-like trousers embellished with flouncy asymmetric panels, while matched sets featured a rather sedate allover abstract print. Anderson’s signature motorcycle jackets finally arrived as did fitted neoprene blousons, but the collection never quite coalesced, moving from strict to girly and back again without this designer’s usually clear point of view.—Nina Stotler
