GILES

MASTER OF CEREMONIES
London: With their zombie-like dead stares and grayish complexions, the models at Giles looked like they needed resuscitation, but if anything had the power to do that it was their glorious, high-glamour outfits. With the help of his partner-in-crime, stylist Katie Grand, Giles’ shows are always a theatrical spectacle, but in recent seasons his garments have become less cartoonish and more red-carpet ready, and F/W 13 was no exception. There was a bridal vibe in the billowing silk dresses, guipure lace, spun-gold fringing and veritable Vera Wang swatch book of innocent hues from ivory to oyster to champagne. Empire lines, bishop sleeves, bias cuts and gigantic tulip skirts all made a nuptial-worthy appearance, too. Then came embellished dresses in bright rose pink silk and filigree brocade with beaded tulle overlays (for the reception, perhaps?). The show ended with a perverse Giles twist—a parade of gothic, all-black outfits, more fitting for a very different kind of church ceremony. — Natalie Shukur
