FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
London: “My starting point for the collection was Russia and the strong, dignified and proud women who kept their families together during the Russian revolution,” Korean designer Eudon Choi stated on the London Fashion Week website. Russian traditional dress played a key role in his current presentation, his third in London. Full, pleated skirts, billowy cotton tops, and drop-waisted dresses all spoke of the influences, as did the whimsical floral headpieces. But in addition to the folk-inspired items, Choi also offered impeccably tailored leather jackets, sophisticated wide-leg trousers, and brushed wool coats, adding a contemporary element. Scattered beading and sequins appeared on several pieces, their haphazardness providing a sense of charm and a playful counterpoint to the more serious pieces. This balanced and accomplished collection proved that Choi is indeed one of London’s rising stars. –Joanna Manganaro
