SLASH AND BEAD
Milan: For a label known for its prints, Pucci showed surprisingly few of them for Fall in a refreshingly restrained collection from designer Peter Dundas. Instead, graphic slashes, fabric treatments and embellishments stood in for pattern, creating sharply sexy black dresses with sheer panels, velvet burnouts in crocodile or houndstooth motifs and delicately beaded zig-zag tops. Dundas’ mastery of these techniques made the few classic Pucci prints included seem like contractual obligations, but they didn’t distract from refined crystal beaded cardigans, several well-tailored tuxedo suits and an unusual foil-finish pajama set. Unlike the designer’s gypsy Spring collection, the presentation won’t require commitment to a total look, allowing Pucci fans to indulge in glittery high-fashion that also happens to be wearable off the runway.—Nina Stotler
