RUGGED FEMININITY
New York: Designer Sharon Wauchob is known for her delicate dresses, which often feature weightless layers of silk and tangled webs of shoulder straps. For Edun, the designer presented plenty of those signature dresses, but expanded her repertoire by including rugged, military-inspired pieces that balanced out the femininity. Utility jackets were shrugged on over filmy skirts, fluid pants, or fluttery dresses, and olive drab was in heavy rotation. Many of the silky printed tops were unbuttoned to the navel, exposing sporty multi-strap bras or simple bandeaus, each offering enough coverage that the overall effect was free of any vulgarity. Though the tough-and-tender styling was what initially grabbed the viewer’s attention, a closer look at the garments revealed numerous pieces that would easily fit into the contemporary woman’s wardrobe. –Joanna Manganaro
