Milan: Dan and Dean Caten’s muse is always pushing the envelope of youthful, bold fashion, adding a healthy dose of swagger to current junior trends. For Pre-Fall the designers chose to place their muse squarely in the 60s, tailoring the era’s pencil skirts, trenches, and crewneck knits for a slim, body conscious fit and experimenting with bright argyles and vibrant ombré. This season’s favorite pant, the cropped trouser, complimented pointy pumps and tucked in button downs, while the more masculine evening looks, such as a velvet smoking jacket or grey tux, trumped the handful of average, skintight cocktail dresses. Styling was key throughout, communicating the label’s rebellious attitude through a slouchy stance, sharp cat-eye makeup and prop cigarettes, subverting even the most preppy duffel coats and tweed minis.—Nina Stotler
