MODERN REGIMENT
Paris: The military seems to be on the mind of quite a few menswear designers this season, and Dior Homme’s Kris Van Assche is no exception. Beginning with a drab shade of olive, the designer carried his regimental theme through khaki trench capes, slim twill trousers and an abstract camouflage bomber jacket. But Assche prudently married his inspiration with an eye for wearable sportswear, alternating more esoteric draped silhouettes with cotton button downs and sleek quilted outerwear. Monochromatic styling gave the collection a serious air, though this mood was also lightened by casual additions like unembellished baseball caps, waxed cotton parkas and felted wool overshirts. Assche’s modern deployment revealed a glimpse of softness too, with a flock of birds embroidered across elongated coats.—Nina Stotler
