MENSWEAR MINDED
New York: Derek Lam’s Pre-Fall presentation featured exactly the type of functional, well-cut separates every modern woman wants in her wardrobe. Menswear inspired double-breasted blazers had a fit and flare silhouette created by nipped waists and fur collars, while even slim trousers looked casually slouchy. Much of the presentation was subdued but cool, with muted olive, chambray blue and cranberry accented by Lam’s lone flashy item, a pair of gold loafers. As for pattern and texture, a few pieces executed in a creative woven denim drew the eye, but a color blocked flocked brocade worked against the collection’s urban sensibility.—Nina Stotler
