THE PROVOCATIVE BRIDE
New York: With so many white dresses, S/S 13 at Cushnie et Ochs looked perfect for an ultra chic modern wedding, provided the bride prefers body-conscious silhouettes and strategic cut outs. In fact, floral embroidery stitched on one simple piece was modeled on designer Michelle Ochs’ own wedding gown, while a sheer white underskirt layered beneath a leather mini recalled traditional veils. But following a brief foray into swimwear, a new category for the label, Cushnie et Ochs’ presentation returned to their signature slinky sheaths. Rendered in clean aqua, cobalt satin and ebony stretch jersey, updates to this tried-and-true formula included monochrome foiled lotus prints and sharp cap sleeves as well as a welcome touch of elegant draping. Sexy doesn’t always mean skin-tight, a lesson these young designers are quickly learning.—Nina Stotler
