BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN
London: Christopher Kane surprised editors and buyers with an unlikely inspiration for spring – Frankenstein. With candy colors, rose cloqué, and feminine bow appliqués, the reference was not immediately apparent. But, if one looked closer, the details gave it away. Many items were pinched above the shoulders and held together with clear screws, a nod to the mythical creature’s construction. The purposefully haphazard details extended to the final looks, which featured lace and jewel appliqués tacked down with what appeared to be black electrical tape. A more straightforward reference to the theme was a t-shirt emblazoned with a lavender image of Frankenstein’s face. Though the inspiration was ghoulish, feminine details, pastel tones, and airy materials kept the collection from going to the dark side. –Joanna Manganaro
